Pain During and After Pregnancy

Pre/Post-partumPregnancy shouldn’t mean pain. Physical therapy can help you manage your pain and discomfort during your pregnancy and post-partum time periods. Our physical therapists have undergone training in the treatment of the pregnant client through the Section on Women’s Health of the American Physical Therapy Association. Common complaints during pregnancy that we can assist you with include: low back pain, SI joint pain, neck and shoulder pain, pelvic pain, pubic bone pain, hip, knee, and foot pain, postural changes and mid back pain, muscle soreness, and carpal tunnel syndrome. In addition, we provide education and instruction on positioning for labor and delivery and education on posture and body mechanics for childcare and activities of daily living. Our specialists fit patients with external supports and braces if necessary.

Physical therapy is effective for post-partum conditions including: core and abdominal weakness, diastasis recti abdominis (split abdominal muscle), weakness after bed rest, post-operative incision pain (cesarean and episiotomy), and pain in the following areas: neck, mid back, low back, SI joint, tailbone, shoulder and pubic bone.  We also very commonly provide treatment for vaginal pain and pain with intercourse
